We’re excited to share that Minnesota native, Joe Swanson is the new owner of Wheelers Point Resort & Lodge.

Joe grew up in a small mining town on the North Shore of Lake Superior with two great parents and three crazy older brothers. He currently resides in Minnesota with his wife and two children. They love to travel and live where they are in the world. This is why he invests in properties and enjoys seeing multiple generations of folks making memories. His investments are made on a 100-year plan and he rarely sells.

Joe’s passion for carrying on the Wheeler Point Resort legacy comes from growing up in Minnesota, his love for lake life, and his early work in the hospitality industry. “I like owning vacation destination properties because building and maintaining family memories is a great business to be in,” says Joe.

His goal is to keep the magic of Lake of the Woods and Rainy River by growing a prime team to serve guests and help the labor shortage in the hospitality industry. “I am known as an idea person that likes to watch ideas happen. This happens by building and developing teams that like to learn and build for the future,” says Joe.

Joe understands and shares the same core values and high-quality guest service expectations as the previous owners because he has walked in their shoes. He is down-to-earth and grew his business from the bottom up. He plans to honor the long-standing resort traditions while improving the guest experience. To start, The Icehole Bar & Grill will be renovated over the summer of 2022. Wheeler Point Resort will continue to offer all the other amenities you are accustomed to and superior guest service. Visit our neighbor less than a mile away for other bar and grill options, the Sportsman’s Lodge Sandbar and Fins Rooftop Bar!

Minnesota-based hospitality management company, Leisure Hotels & Resorts, has been hired to assist the Wheelers Point Resort team with day-to-day management. Leisure Hotels & Resorts is a small dedicated team specializing in independent resorts. They are passionate about hospitality and have over 100 years of experience in the industry. Like Joe, this team has worked from the bottom up, and they look forward to welcoming you back to Wheelers.
