We are continuing with a business as usual approach

We are continuing with a business as usual approach

Not much for actual fishing information to report on this week.  It is out of the norm for us, we feel we are at our best when guests are here.  It proves to us how much we appreciate all of you and miss having you around.  We are thankful for being able to serve so many generations of families spanning decades.  We are grateful that so many people have put their trust in us.  Without your passion and respect for our waterways and community we would not be able to fulfill our need to serve you.

As far as fishing information goes; while there is still plenty of ice on the lake, we do not see the river ice opening up any time soon.  It has been a few years since we were able to have houses on the lake to the end of March, this year we have the ice.

We are continuing with a business as usual approach, so when the day comes and are back to normal, we will hit the ground running.  If you choose to cancel, please do, we are not enforcing deposit requirements at this time.  If your group wants to guarantee the spot and have your deposit paid, that’s great.  Currently, what we will be asking of the groups who do not make deposits, is to ensure us that we are not holding the date for you when it should be made available for someone else.  As always, if Border View Lodge is unable to, or prevented from making your reservation happen for you, we would refund any deposits made.

Because the lack of fishing information, maybe we have other things to share.  Some of you may not know, Lisa and my history in the hospitality industry goes back to 1980.  Whew, that’s 40 years.  Mike’s 1st jobs were cleaning apartment buildings and paper routes for the Star Tribune and Bloomington Sun papers, during high school, Lisa and Mike had jobs with beginner positions like dishwasher, cook and server.  Places like Bridgman’s and Pizza Hut were always busy. It was on the job training for us.  In those days; clean uniforms, and attentive service were keys to success.  Thank goodness cell phones did not exist.  The biggest fear and distractions we faced were having friends or family become customers while on a shift.  I am thinking that may still be true today.

We wish everyone health and wellness and will be patiently waiting the day we can wet a line.

We continue to trek after the Walleye!

We continue to trek after the Walleye!

We continue to trek after the Walleye.  The forecast is looking like we should be good to go for another week or more.

The greatest thing about ice fishing right now, it is a self-quarantine activity.  Basically, you do not need to come in close proximity of anyone you didn’t bring with you.  You can take yourself to and from the fish house.  Why be a shut in, everyone should be going fishing.

We still have houses spread out from near Pine Island and out to 14 miles.   We may be working towards some locations with outside fishing if the weather is conducive.  Bring some bibs and warmer clothes along just in case. Those continually working their baits are doing best.  The need is to keep your presentation fresh and work it for the next school to travel by.

Again, the weather shows some single digits overnight and daytime highs hitting 30’s for the week ahead.

Ice conditions are still good even with the warmer weather. We have enjoyed the warm up and it looks to be staying with these temps this next week as well. March is a great time to come up and fish!

We have started moving our houses to the south side of the bridge but still remain about 14 miles out. By Tuesday we should have all our houses on the south side of the bridge to eliminate issues with the bridge and the warm weather.

Fishing is still going strong and lots of fun is being had! Give us a call today to book your March fishing trip!

ICE CONDITIONS ARE GOOD

ICE CONDITIONS ARE GOOD

This past week’s temps were colder than we expected, dipping in to 20 below for most of the week.  We are continuing to see big fish caught along with some nice take home fish.  We are still making our way North and are 16 miles out.

Hot colors this week have been pink and glow white. Keeping one line that rattles active is still a must! If your dead stick goes inactive make sure to put a fresh active minnow on, fresh bait is key on a dead stick line.

We start this next week with highs in the 20’s dropping down a bit by the end of the week.

We still have some availability at the end of February and March so give us a call to book your trip.

We have had guests catch and release some bigger Walleye this past week

We have had guests catch and release some bigger Walleye this past week.  We continue the trek North and are 14 miles past Pine Island.  We have crossed one major pressure ridge and it now looks like we have a large clear sheet of ice ahead us.

Being aggressive while jigging a noise maker is still the best method.  Having a lively minnow on the dead stick pairs your presentation as a team.  Plain hook or something like a Gem-n-Eye on the dead stick is good. Having a Rippin Rap or something else that will make noise is a good pick for lures.

Slightly lower temps are forecasted for the week ahead.  High’s in the 20’s and lows just below zero.

We’ve Been on the Move North

WE'VE BEEN ON THE MOVE NORTH

The temperatures have leveled off this week, resulting in a better bite! We’ve seen increased activity in the bigger walleyes, we have some pics of beautiful 27” plus fish to share this week. Captain Mike even gets on the board with a 29 plus. People are catching some nice eaters too, with enough to have a fish fry and still take some home. It’s been mild with a couple of beautiful sunny days. Today is gray and foggy. We’ve been on the move north. This week we’re out about 12 miles past Pine Island and progressing further north and still in the 32’ of water area. We can’t remember being this far north this early in the season. We can basically say, we are in the middle of the lake. Bring your Lake of the Woods tackle staples (gold and glow) and make sure you have a good noise maker; you will need to be actively jigging. For a dead stick presentation, a plain hook will do. Another mild week ahead with a high of 33 forecasted for Saturday. Lows in the teens and single digits with very low chances of precipitation. The high humidity predicted all week will likely keep the fog going. FISH ON! 1-800-PRO FISH
